A serial offender got an impromptu stint in the cells on Friday after failing to heed warnings.

Jamie Thom, 30, was appearing for a progress report hearing at Hamilton Sheriff Court when he was hauled before Sheriff Ray Small.

Thom was sentenced to 18 months’ supervision in September after admitting threatening to murder his on-off girlfriend and her new partner at a house in The Murray.

And Thom admitted being in possession of two modified brass cartridges during the incident in April.

He was hauled before the sheriff after shouting to another member of the public despite being told to be quiet by court officers.

Sheriff Small told him: “If you can’t behave yourself in court and act in this way you will be put in the cells until your case calls.”

Once brought back up to the dock, Thom apologised for his behaviour and the case was continued until January 25, 2017. A 17-year-old ASBO thug has been detained in custody for two violent assaults at a town centre takeaway.

The East Kilbride teenager, who cannot legally be named, seized his first male victim by the neck and repeatedly punched him on the head and body at Victor Chip Shop, Cornwall Way on December 19.

He attacked a second male by seizing him by the throat and repeatedly punching him on the head and body.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of assault at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

The teen also admitted acting aggressively at the chip shop, challenging people to a fight and repeatedly kicking windows on the same date.

He was released on bail at the time and the subject of an anti-social behaviour order.

The case was adjourned until January 10, 2017 for background reports.

The teenager was refused bail and detained in custody. Trolley goodSt

Drivers in East Kilbride face at least 10 months of disruption in the new year as work begins on the upgrade of part of Auldhouse Road.

The work on a section of the road will start in January after housebuilder Taylor Wimpey was granted detailed planning permission to build 484 homes in Lindsayfield in a massive development at Benthall Farm.

The programme of works forms part of its planning agreement with South Lanarkshire Council — and will mean that Moss Road, as well as part of Auldhouse Road will be temporarily closed in order for the work to commence.

The road closures will be in place from January 30, 2017, and they are likely to run for a duration of around 10 months.

And the company say the road improvement project is an essential phase of preparatory works ahead of Taylor Wimpey West Scotland’s development of new homes off Shields Road.

The programme of work includes the installation of a new roundabout on Auldhouse Road which will also provide access to the development of new homes, as well as service diversions. Mapping it out

And it also includes the re-alignment of a section of Auldhouse Road of approximately 750 metres.

The creation of the roundabout and the upgrade to part of Auldhouse Road means that both Moss Road and Auldhouse Road must be closed because the nature of the work stops them from being kept partially open.

The new upgraded road will be 6.5m wide with a 3m wide shared cycleway/ footpath along its west side, and it will have a 2m wide grass verge along its east side when all works are completed in late 2017.

David Blair, major projects director for Taylor Wimpey in Scotland, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for the inconvenience these closures and diversions are likely to cause.

“Please be assured that we will be working with our contractors to ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum and local diversion signage will provide clear alternatives for road users.

“A map outlining the diversion and road closures that are in place will always be available via our website.

“It is our aim to provide regular updates on our progress of the upgrade via our website and local press to ensure the local community and all road users are as are informed as possible of both our progress and any change to the programme of works.

“Anyone with any concerns should call us on 0141 849 5500 or email westscotlandcustomerservices@ taylorwimpey.com.”

There were 74 letters of objection to the plans for the housing development, including concerns over increased pressure on the surrounding road network, further erosion of the greenbelt and increasing strain on the infrastructure of the local area, particularly in regard to leisure facilities and education facilities. A stalker who terrorised his ex-partner has been locked up for six months.

Martin Lang, of New Plymouth, Westwood, terrified his victim by bombarding her with offensive texts and unwanted phone calls over a 17-month period.

Alarmingly, he tried to force his way into her East Kilbride home, acted aggressively and made offensive remarks towards her, shouted and swore at her and threatened to damage her property.

The offences took place on various occasions between May 13, 2015 and October 22, 2016 at Livingstone Drive, Riccarton, New Plymouth and elsewhere, while Lang, 28, was out on bail.

He breached a court order banning him from contacting or approaching his victim or entering Riccarton by doing so on numerous occasions between September 8 and October 11.

Lang pleaded guilty at Hamilton Sheriff Court. Sheriff Alasdair MacFadyen sentenced him to six months imprisonment backdated to October 25. A motorist had a lucky escape when his car ended up in a ditch off the A726 between Strathaven and Chapelton just before 11.30pm on Christmas Eve.

Police attended and requested an ambulance after the driver, who had exited the car by then, complained of back pain. He had initially declined medical assistance. However, a friend came and picked the man up and took him to hospital to be checked over.

The car was later recovered by the driver and no charges have been brought.
