Abandoned pets need a festive home

- Andrea O’Neill

‘Tis the season to spread some festive cheer to abandoned animals whose only wish is to find a loving home in the new year.

The News has teamed up with the Scottish SPCA Lanarkshire to bring you 12 strays of Christmas.

Heartbreakingly, these beautiful creatures have been repeatedly overlooked by visitors, and some having spent more than two years at the rescue and rehoming centre, patiently wait for a place to call home.

While the animal welfare charity would never encourage impulsive rehoming — especially around Christmas — they are desperate to find deserved homes for these 12 loving animals.

Centre manager Peter Fleming said: “These are just some of our animals who are patiently waiting for their forever owners to come along.

“Our exotic animals tend to find getting a new forever home particularly difficult – but we know they make great pets and the right owner will get endless joy from having their company.

“We would ask anyone who has carefully thought through their decision to get in touch or pop in to meet the animals in our care.

“There is also lots of information about many other pets looking for their forever home on our website and we encourage people to visit scottishspca.org

●Anyone interested in any of the pets featured can call the centre on 0300 999 999 or pop in for a visit at their base on Bothwell Road, Hamilton. Opening hours are from 10am to 4pm.
