Council road boss says closure is “unavoidable”
Head of roads and transportation services at South Lanarkshire Council, Gordon Mackay, said:“The road closure is required for a substantial upgrade of Auldhouse Road.
“Unfortunately, due to the scale and nature of these works and for the safety of all road users, a road closure is the only way the work can be carried out.
“As is standard practice, the closure was advertised in the local press in December last year and notices were also posted on-site. We understand Taylor Wimpey have already been in discussion with the community council on this matter and are set to issue a letter soon to Auldhouse residents.
“The official diversion for traffic is the most appropriate route as the roads used are of a higher or similar standard to Auldhouse Road.
“Traffic flows to and from Auldhouse are relatively low and as such it is not anticipated that vehicle displacement from the closure of Auldhouse Road will cause difficulties on either the official diversion route or on other roads in the vicinity. An inspection of the roads in and around Auldhouse will be undertaken before the closure is implemented.
David Blair, major projects director for Taylor Wimpey in Scotland, said: “We would like to take this opportunity to reassure the local community that we have worked closely with the council to agree and implement the diversion route they require in order to maximise the public’s safety during this period.
“This agreed programme of work forms part of our planning approval from South Lanarkshire Council, and it also provides the most efficient timescale to complete the project.
“Consultation on all aspects of a proposed development of new homes and any necessary infrastructure works that are required are carried out by the local authority as part of the planning process.
“Therefore we would expect that full consideration has been given to the impact for all road users including the emergency services.“
