Jags are aiming to shut Glens down
“We did that against Culter in the previous round and had a lot of success with that in the first game and the replay.
“It’s a big game for us and a highprofile match for the club to be involved in. “I can’t wait for it.” While Thistle boast two former Glens in their squad, Campbell is well aware of the job facing his players, with the visitors able to call on the likes of experienced stars Kieran McAnespie, Ryan Borris and Kyle McAusland.
East Kilbride natives David Gray and Chris Dallas - a former Jag as well as Glens’ top scorer - will also pose a threat.
Glenafton sit second in the West Region’s top division and are massive favourites to progress to the last 16.
Campbell’s men are ninth in the Central District Second Division, four tiers below their rivals, but Campbell has called on his side to believe they can get a result.
He added: “There’s no doubt it’s a tough gig for us, it’s always going to be a difficult tie to get into the last 32 of the Junior Cup.
“But the players should go in there with confidence in their ability because we have great individuals in the squad.
“We have earned the right to be here, so they should have a positive attitude and give it their best shot.
“If they can do that and apply themselves to the best of their abilities, we’ll see where it takes us.
“There’s a bit of trepidation knowing we are playing a team from the top league, but it’s a cup tie.
“Anything can happen and we have to give it everything we’ve got.”
Both sides were sidelined at the weekend due to frozen pitches as the Jags’ home clash with Ashfield and Glenafton’s match at home to Hurlford failed to pass pitch inspections. So both go into the match cold. Campbell added: “After our game was called off I had hoped to get a look at Glenafton.
“We ended up going to Soccerworld in Glasgow for a 90-minute training session and I think the whole of Junior football was there with the amount of games called off.
“It’s not ideal because we’ve not had a lot of games recently, but I know the boys are ready and up for this.”
Kick-off at the Showpark is 1.45pm.
