Councillors must stand up

-

Dear Editor,

What I’d like to say through the News Letters page is how much we appreciate the positive response from the public when you went out and asked them about the installation of the CCTV in St Leonards Square (Do CCTV cameras make you feel safer?, January 4).

I hope we can build on this project very quickly and secure a permanent camera for the square.

It would have been more than helpful if our elected councillors had contacted myself after your front-page story

However, not one of them has made such a move.

I think it is time to put some public pressure on them to come out of their hibernation and do what they are paid for and that is work for the good of their constituents.

Elections are coming up and apart from the infighting with councillor John Cairney, we have not heard a thing from any of the other parties.

I am particularly disappointed in Councillor Wardhaughs as they are supposed to be our first port of call when dealing with any South Lanarkshire matters.

The fact that they do not attend our meetings somewhat justifies their ignorance of what is going on in their ward.

Now is their last chance to be responsible for their actions. We just want councillors that do what they are elected to do – simple! Perhaps you could interview them and we will sit down and wait for their reply?

Surely the case in hand with our CCTV project should have them, at least, showing some form of response to help get us this additional camera as we have made it public knowledge that we are at least working for our local residents and they have responded 100 per cent in favour of our project.

Personally, I can’t wait to see this installed and hope it is a clear message that we in the community council care. Graeme Macklin St Leonards Community Council chairman
