Calderglen pupils are art-tastic
Visitors enjoy exhibition
Pupils from Calderglen High School had a fantastic opportunity to showcase a range of their art and design works in an exhibition at Calderglen County Park last week.
Staff, pupils, parents, carers and the public were invited to celebrate the work during a special launch on Sunday, January 22.
That afternoon’s event was well attended and the feedback received was extremely positive with one visitor saying: “I couldn’t believe some of the work on display was by school kids. Outstanding!”
The exhibition spanned three rooms at the Torrance Gallery (off the Courtyard) and featured a range of visual art created by pupils across S1–S6 including creations from the broad general education, national 5, higher, Junk Kouture, S3 masterclass and the art and photography clubs. The exhibition also included, for the first time, photographs from the new higher photography course.
The school is grateful to Carluke Camera Club and South Lanarkshire Leisure for their support in setting up the exhibition. The park rangers at Calderglen were also accommodating.
And they hope to run the exhibition as an annual event in the calendar.
Art teacher Susan Rennie said: “We are celebrating expression, hard work and creativity but, most importantly, we are giving pupils the opportunity to see the value of their art and to be proud of it, giving them confidence to continue with their studies in this subject area.”
The art and design department wants to work more with creative industries in an attempt to help bring the outside world into the classroom.
If you’re a creative person, business or organisation and are interested in getting involved, contact the school directly. You can follow the art department on Twitter at @cglenartdesign and find out more information from the school website. 260117exhibition_06
