Roses tribute will bloom in Coatbridge

- Andrew Bargh

The nations’ leading Stone Roses tribute band are coming to Coatbridge this Friday as part of their UK wide tour.

Resurrection Stone Roses will delight the crowd at the town’s Eagle Inn in what is expected to be a sellout gig. The Glasgow band, who used to perform as The Complete Stone Roses, returned three years ago from a near decade long hiatus and haven’t looked back since. Frontman Ricky Toner told The Ticket the band can’t wait to play at The Eagle Inn again. He said: “We’ve played there a few times so we’re well aware it’s a great wee venue. “We’ve sold it out both times and there aren’t many tickets left for this Friday either.

“It’s a brilliant place for a gig. We headlined their summer festival two years ago and are really looking forward to coming back this weekend.”

The band started in 1998 and quickly became adored performers on the tribute act scene, playing at major events across the country.

But Ricky revealed it’s the smaller, more intimate gigs that get Resurrection’s juices flowing.

He added: “Obviously playing in big venues is enjoyable, but I prefer the smaller ones.

“Standing on the same level as the crowd and being able to connect with them means more, rather than stading high on a stage away from everybody.

“It’s difficult to put your finger on it but it’s a magical feeling.

“Big gigs don’t have the same atmosphere as places like the Eagle Inn.”

He added: “But maybe it’s just the good working-class people around these parts that make it better.”

Tribute bands may sometimes struggle to attract crowds – primarily because they’re not the real thing.

But Resurrection have toured with one quarter of the Roses who gave them his seal of approval.

Ricky added: “We toured with Mani the bassist in our early days.

“He would play a DJ set before our gigs to warm-up the crowd and we got to jam with him a few times; that was surreal.

“Just imagine, jamming his own tunes with the Stone Roses bass player; it doesn’t get much better than that!

“I’d say if you’re unsure about going to see a tribute band, we are as close to the records as you’ll find.”

Tickets are still available for the gig on Friday via the Eagle Inn and Cave Wall Studios and cost £8.
