Toughresults forEKLadies

Another loss put East Kilbride Ladies just above the relegation zone in West District Division One on Saturday whilst a draw for the second string kept them top of Division Two.

The firsts once again came off the pitch feeling the 5-1 scoreline didn’t reflect the game.

The home side had a fair amount of possession and passages of good play, but seemed over-run at the back and not lethal enough up front.

That said, the visitors’keeper was on fine form, saving at least two great chances from EK.

Ardrossan went two-nil up within the first 10 minutes, both hits on the break. EK found their feet halfway through the half and played some nice hockey, Paula Richmond going closest after a lovely move. Left half Shona Kinloch collected in midfield, passed to Aine MacDonald who quickly moved the ball to Richmond to shoot, but the keeper saved.

Just as it looked like EK were making headway, with Sheona Hutchsion working hard in midfield and sisters Iona and Aine MacDonald making some great runs, Ardrossan scored a third.

In the second half the visitors added another before EK enjoyed a prolonged period bossing the game.

Hard-working Julia Whittle took a pot shot from the edge of the D and Richmond latched on to the rebound, which was saved. But Richmond got her stick to the ball again and it went over for a consolation.

Just when it looked like EK might restore some pride Ardrossan broke and scored again.

It was a disappointing day where EK actually gave a decent account of themselves, but couldn’t stem the goal tide.

Meanwhile, EK’s second team fought out a 0-0 draw with Kelburne Ladies on Saturday.

Goal opportunities were limited in the first half as neither team could find their way to the goal through the miserable weather.

The visitors enjoyed most of the possession in the first half and the local side had their best chance in the second half when Katie Stewart had a strike fizz past the goal.

Both teams kept fighting until the end with Clair Ormond pulling off some fantastic saves.
