Burns Supper The Castlemilk Hall management committee held their annual Burns Supper on Friday, which a complete sell-out event. The host for the evening, chairman John Kinloch, invited guests to welcome in the haggis, piped in by Andrew Bell, an excellent young musician. The Rev Gray Fletcher then delivered the Selkirk Grace and guests enjoyed a wonderful traditional Burns Night feast. The host then introduced, George Hunter who would present his version of the Immortal Memory. George is the producer and director of the Carmunnock Drama Club, and delighted the audience with a very well researched and original Immortal Memory which included some excellent recitations. It was excellent stuff from George; very well done. This was followed by George’s wife Pat’s interpretation of “Tam O’ Shanter”. A flawless delivery which very correctly received a standing ovation. “How do you follow that,” was Alistair Young’s comment as he took to the floor to deliver the “Toast to the Lassies”. Nevertheless, it was an excellent toast, full of good humour and wit with a wee joust at Rhona, his lovely wife, who would follow him with an extremely funny “Reply on behalf of the Lassies”. An excellent selection of speakers, with the evening being rounded off with some community singers. Sadly, this fell a little flat, probably due to the guests’ very slightly over indulgengence. The chairman offered a vote of thanks to all the contributors and to the committee members who organised the event. They had clearly worked tirelessly in preparing the beautifully decorated hall, the excellent food for what was another very successful local community event. It’s also a great opportunity for old neighbours and friends to catch up on everything that’s going on in the village. The chairman also thanked all those who donated raffle prizes for the event. A great big well done to everyone involved.

Recreation Club As it was the last Friday of the month, it was the “Open Mic’ Jammin Session” in the village Recreation Club. There was a great crowd for the event, and this was swelled when the Burns Supper in the Castlemilk Hall finished, with a considerable number wishing to extend the festivities. The room was certainly rocking with, at one number, 13 musicians on stage jammin’ away. It was certainly a great night to be living in Carmunnock and another example of the wonderful community spirit that exists within the community.
