Motorists are being urged to avoid the East Kilbride Expressway after it was revealed that the eastbound carriageway will be closed this weekend.

Essential resurfacing work begins at 8pm on Friday night and Scotland TranServ are warning drivers to expect delays and disruption.

Motorists are being urged to avoid the East Kilbride Expressway after it was revealed that the eastbound carriageway will be closed for a whole weekend.

Essential resurfacing work costing £384,000 will begin at 8pm on Friday night with the route reopen again at 6am on Monday, February 13.

Scotland TranServ – on behalf of Transport Scotland – will carry out the work on the eastbound stretch where the A725 meets the B7012 to High Blantyre.

A local diversion will be in operation but there will be disruption with significant delays anticipated and drivers encouraged to look at alternative options.

Road users travelling eastbound on the A725 should follow the signed diversions via the B7012, continue onto Douglas Street then take the on-slip to rejoin the A725.

Andy Fraser, operating company representative for Scotland TranServ, said: “This programme of work is part of over half-a-million pounds of investment in maintaining the A725.

“The resurfacing works are essential for the safety of our many road users, and a full weekend closure isn’t a decision we’ve taken lightly.

“With heavy commuting traffic during weekdays, the weekend closure has actually been carefully planned to ensure minimal disruption to road users.

“We would advise motorists to plan ahead and look at alternative routes for their journeys in order to avoid potential delays.”
