Thieves targeting cars and vans, warns CI
Over recent weeks, there has been an increase in thefts of motor vehicles and thefts from motor vehicles within the East Kilbride area, particularly St Leonards, Westwood and Greenhills.
Vehicles which have been stolen or damaged have been transit vans and pick up style vehicles.
On each occasion, expensive work tools have been stolen from within the vehicles.
Your local officers are carrying out enquiries to identify those involved in these crimes, however, I would appeal to the residents of East Kilbride and Strathaven to ensure that they are putting crime prevention measures in place to try to deter these opportunist criminals.
Always ensure that your vehicle is locked and secured, and double check before retiring to bed at night.
Try not to leave tools in your vehicle overnight and where this is not possible ensure that you park your vehicle against a wall or garage door to prevent the rear doors from being forced open.
Always park in well-lit areas and never leave any documentation within your vehicle.
If you have any information in relation to persons involved in these crimes please contact us on 101.
Alternatively, you can provide information anonymously via CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111.
This week we are working with local schools to promote Safer Internet Day. Police Scotland is working in partnership with South Lanarkshire Council to provide young people with advice and guidance on how to use the internet safely.
We want to prevent young people from becoming the victims of cybercrime.
Wishing everyone a safe week.
