Members blast plans to ramp up prices Theyare planning tomake changes

-

2013 we had 230 members and now we have managed to attract 318, but with these increases we expect membership to fall to 2010 levels or less.”

Langlands committee member Alex McLaughlin, from Greenhills, echoed those comments.

He said: “The increase for swimming and gym memberships is much lower, so there is something fundamentally wrong if golf is going up by 20 per cent for non-residents.

“South Lanarkshire Leisure have told us their hands are tied, but this will be devastating to golf in the area at a time where we were just starting to grow our membership.”

Gerry Campbell, general manager of South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture, defended the proposals.

He said: “The whole of the public sector is under budget pressure, and the council’s grant from government has suffered real“In term cuts in recent years, and as a result the funding for local leisure services is decreasing. “We have had to make difficult choices. “Non-residents will be asked to pay more because we acknowledge that residents of South Lanarkshire are already contributing financially towards a range of services in the area.

“We operated a similar system until a few years ago.” The following planning applications were approved by South Lanarkshire Council for the East Kilbride and Avondale areas:
