Reach for the stars

Creative kids showcase their talent

-

Youngsters at St Vincent’s Primary reached for the stars when they showcased their work recently.

Six Primary Seven pupils were invited to present an account of their experience working on a project at a creativity conference for schools across South Lanarkshire in Hamilton Townhouse.

The group was made up by Euan Madigan, Junior O’Raw, Harvey Mitchell-Divers, Jessica Thomson, Matthew Bromley and Kara Coleman.

This event was organised by the council’s cultural coordinators and was presented by Paul Gorman who is the creative producer from production company Hidden Giants.

Last year, St Vincent’s were one of only two schools in South Lanarkshire selected to work with Paul on an interdisciplinary project called “Our Fragile Earth” which culminated in a showcase which received huge praise from all who visited.

The children shared their experience of leading their own learning and using thinking skills to investigate if it was possible to survive on a different planet.

This work built on the existing innovative work taking place as part of the Rolls-Royce Science prize where St Vincent’s won second place in the UK-wide competition.

Following the conference, each school was given £150. They were challenged to use this money to make a change to something in their school which they would showcase at a special event in May.

Head teacher Eileen Tompkins said: “We were delighted to contribute to this conference and share our own very positive experience .

“It was very encouraging to receive such positive and affirming feedback.”
