Community and enterprise facing cull

A total of £7.4m and 114 posts are being removed from the community and enterprise resources budget.

●Removal of the council’s automated public convenienc­e (APC) budget, saving £8000.

●The phased withdrawal/ reduction in vehicle activated signs. They will only be replaced if the location has a particular accident history, saving £5000.

●A cut of £24,000 in flood scouting with a reduction in the frequency of planned culvert clearance and withdrawal of forecast-triggered responses –‘at risk’sites will be cleaned within normal working hours.

●Standardis­ation of cleaning in educationa­l properties will be cut by £312,000 by reducing the number of hours.

●Number of spare vehicles in the roads winter fleet will also be cut, saving £62,000.

●£154,000 will be saved from allocating community lets from primary schools (that are within one mile of secondary schools) into secondary schools, reducing the number of council premises open on the same night.

●£35,000 saved from council’s mobile library service becoming monthly instead of fortnightl­y.

●The completion of the council’s street lighting programme to LED will see 11 associated posts cut, saving £1.64m.

●Food waste liners will now only be issued to those actively participat­ing in the scheme as opposed to households being supplied with three a week, saving £100,000.

●A £60,000 saving by slashing the majority of council-run recycling points, of which there are currently 60.

●Withdrawal of funding to third-party voluntary bodies including VASLAN – £166,00 from core funding along with £15,000 further funding to its portal locator.

●Removal of provision of council catering vans from Calderglen Country Park and Calderglen High School – where it is used as an alternativ­e to school meals.

●Road safety education and school travel planning will see a cut of three posts as part of a £3000 saving in the council’s roads staffing structure.

●Increase in charges of three per cent across facilities, waste and ground services including replacemen­ts bins, bags and coffee-shop prices but excluding school meals and bereavemen­t charges – £30,000 saving.
