Walking stick charge

A man has pleaded not guilty to seriously assaulting another man with a walking stick.

James Kane, 38, allegedly struck his victim on the head with the stick, causing him to fall to the ground, before stamping on his body.

It is claimed the man was kicked to the head and repeatedly struck on the head with a walking stick to his severe injury and permanent impairment.

The alleged offence happened at Kelso Drive, East Kilbride, on March 31 last year. Kane, of King Street, Carstairs, claimed self defence at Hamilton Sheriff Court. The case was adjourned until March 24. Trial has been set for April 3.
