A public meeting on fracking and the Scottish Government’s consultation will be held later this month.

Hosted by the Radical Independence Campaign East Kilbride (RIC EK) in the Murray Owen Centre on Thursday, March 30, from 7pm to 9pm, speakers will include Flick Monk, unconventional fossil fuel campaigner at Friends of the Earth Scotland and Penny Cole, environment editor at a World to Win and co-author of “Fracking Capitalism”.

The meeting will look at what exactly is involved in fracking and how to participate in the government consultation, which will run until May 31.

In January 2015, the Scottish Government put a moratorium on fracking.

They are now holding the public consultation to find out what the people of Scotland think before coming to a decision at the end of this year as to whether fracking should be allowed.

Campaigners against it argue, if allowed, it will hold back efforts to combat climate change and will pose a serious public health risk and threaten communities across Scotland.

Frances Sinclair, of RIC EK, said: “This is an important issue which affects us all and we cannot afford to not take part.

“It has nothing to do with party politics but everything to do with our health and the health and well being of future generations.

”All life depends on clean air, soil and water – fracking threatens all three.”

The event in the Murray Owen Centre is free and teas and coffee will be available.
