An unofficial overtime ban and work to rule by District Council and manual workers was called off. Disruption to some services including baths, sports centre and refuse collections would have been caused if the action had gone ahead. The action was threatened after the works committee for manual workers at East Kilbride District Council failed to reach an agreement on time allowed for union duties for shop stewards and conveners.
A local regional councillor accused Strathclyde Regional Council of attempting to “blackmail”East Kilbride and Stonehouse Development Corporation over their facility and house-letting locally following approval of a Whitehills development.
