Jonny Gray helped Scotland end their Six Nations campaign on a high with a thumping 29-0 victory over Italy at Murrayfield.
The former Calderglen High School pupil, from Stewartfield, had a fantastic tournament and produced 11 tackles in the match to contribute towards the impressive clean sheet.
His appearance ensured the 23-year-old lock started every single match of the campaign and Jonny will find out next month if he has done enough to force his way into Warren Gatland’s squad for the British Lions’ tour of New Zealand.
Saturday’s win was the perfect send off for departing Scotland boss Vern Cotter, who will be replaced by Gregor Townsend – currently Gray’s club coach at Glasgow Warriors – in June.
The Dark Blues won three games in the championships for the first time since 2006 and tries from Finn Russell, Matt Scott, Tim Visser and Tommy Seymour ensured the finished the campaign with a flourish.
They ended up level on 14 points with runners-up Ireland and third place France, but finished fourth on points difference. England won the trophy, but were denied the Grand Slam after suffering their only defeat of the tournament in their final game against Ireland.
Jonny’s brother Richie missed the Italy clash after failing to recover from a hamstring injury suffered in last week’s defeat to England. Richie was named in the line-up on Thursday, but withdrew on the eve of the match.
