A second half goal-blitz helped East Kilbride YM hit 100 goals for the season as they stayed in the Caledonian League title race.

The First Division 1B side had to exercise great patience as they sought to obtain the three points that lifted them into second place in the league ahead of next week’s top of the table tussle with Broomhouse.

In the first half YM huffed and puffed against a well organised defence that denied them at every opportunity – until the 45th minute. Balmore’s resistence was finally beaten when strong running from Ross McDonagh at last set up a chance for Craig Tocher, who drove the ball high into the net from 10 yards.

YM went in at the interval relieved to have broken the deadlock and early in the second half doubled their lead with a goal of the season contender.

Jordan Fletcher ran at the Balmore defence and saw his 25-yard shot blocked by a defender. The ball broke to James Cameron just inside the box and his left foot volley flew past the keeper into the net.

That goal lifted YM’s performance and they proceeded to dominate.

A ball over the top put McDonagh in possession and he outmuscled the defender to fire in YM,s third goal.

Tocher then put Connor McCann through and he shrugged off the defender’s attempt to stop him before rounding the keeper and netting YM’s fourth goal.

In the final stages Tocher completed the scoring when he lashed home after good work from William Hastings.

YM now host Broomhouse on Saturday aiming to climb the table. Fixture details are still to be confirmed.

Elsewhere, YM’s Greater Glasgow Premier League side drew 1-1with Rossvale. Murray McClure was on target for YM.
