Teenager detained after stab threat

A teenage thug who admitted hitting a victim on the head with a brick and threatenin­g to stab him was detained for nine months.

Ross Jones appeared for sentence at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

The 18-year-old, of Juniper Avenue, Greenhills, admitted assaulting two men at Strathtay in Hairmyres on April 30 – one to his injury.

He repeatedly pushed his first victim on the body, repeatedly threw bricks and cans at him, threw a bottle at him, struck him on the head with a brick , asked him for his belongings and made threats to stab him.

Jones admitted carrying out a second assault, this time attempting to strike his victim on the body with a brick and also making threats to stab him.

He also pled guilty to a separate charge of being in possession of a knife on March 20 this year while on three bail orders.

Meanwhile, a 17-year-old co-accused from St Leonards, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted assaulting a man, also on April 30 at Strathtay, by kicking him on the body.

He went on to plead guilty to two further charges of assault to injury. He also struck one victim on the head with a brick, threw cans and bottles at him and threatened to stab him.

He was handed down 18 months of supervisio­n and 190 hours of community service.

Kristopher Haig, 20, of King Street in Rutherglen, was admonished of two charges of breaching bail on May 7 and August 27 at a previous hearing.

Not guilty pleas by a fourth co-accused, Declan O’Shea, 18, of Berwick Crescent, Greenhills, to three charges of assault, an assault to injury, an assault and robbery and two breaches of bail were previously accepted by the crown.
