Year of achievement
Dozens receive Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards
Young people from East Kilbride and Strathaven were among those recognised for their achievements in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards.
Around 200 young people were honoured at a ceremony in Hamilton’s Town House.
They were presented with either a bronze, silver or gold award for their efforts and dedication in completing the Duke of Edinburgh programme.
Davie McLachlan, South Lanarkshire Council’s spokesperson for youth, said: “I’d like to congratulate each and every young person who has received an award.
“These certificates are the culmination of many months of hard work and many hours spent learning new skills, taking part in physical activity and volunteering in their local community.
“In South Lanarkshire we have an excellent track record with young people participating in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and hopefully we will build on this success year on year. The programme really does impact positively on young people’s lives and gives them valuable life skills.”
Among those honoured for their achievements were East Kilbride Universal Connections, St Andrew’s and St Brides High School, who are a newlyestablished DofE group, Calderglen High, Duncanrig Secondary and Strathaven Academy.
Councillors Russell Clearie, Jackie Burns and Catherine McClymont presented the awards.
A total of 202 awards were completed in the South Lanarkshire Council area this year with seven gold, 34 silver and 161 bronze.
