PO shuts doors for two days

- Mark Pirie

Strathaven Post Office closed suddenly for two days due to “operational issues”.

The Green Street branch shut down last Wednesday and Thursday before reopening on Friday.

The sudden closure came ahead of news that the office is set to receive a facelift in April as part of a multi-million pound initiative which will force a temporary closure.

Following the disruption customers were advised that they can access Post Office services at any branch, including Low Waters and Stonehouse.

A Post Office spokesperson said: “We would like to apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of Strathaven Post Office.

“This is due to operational reasons.

“We restored services to the area as soon as possible.”

Clydesdale MSP Aileen Campbell said the sudden closure was of concern to local people and contacted the Post Office in an attempt to minimise impact.

“The branch provides valued services to residents and local businesses,” she told the News.

“I have contacted the Post Office to see what measures can be put in place to ensure no gap in the service.” Strathaven MP Lisa Cameron was delighted to see measures taken to improve the service next month. “It’s great to see a muchused service in Strathaven not only being retained but also improved by Post Office Ltd,” she said. “I am due to meet with them to discuss the welcome improvements planned. “The Post Office will be closed temporarily for a short period to undertake the upgrade and I am hopeful that any public inconvenience will be minimised.”
