Probus Club The club’s next activity is a dinner in the Strathaven Hotel tonight followed by the AGM on Wednesday, April 19.

Camera Club On Thursday, March 23 the club had an informal three digital image or print portfolio night that included members judging and discussing the photograph­s the members had brought in. The winner on the night was Robert Young with a portfolio of thee prints of dancers. Tomorrow evening the club has its annual exhibition judging night, when the prize winners of the main internal competitio­n of the year will be announced. The exhibition itself will be on Thursday, May 11 in the Rankin Church Hall on Lethame Road. Members are reminded that on Thursday,

April 6 the club is away to Motherwell Camera Club for a ‘Match an Image’ competitio­n. Members wanting to travel down should make contact with committee members so that travel arrangemen­ts can be made.

Award winners Strathaven Ales struck gold at the recent Society of Independen­t Brewers (SIBA) Awards. The local brewery’s Craigmill Mild took top honours as one of Britain’s best beers and clinched first prize in the champion small pack standard mild and brown ales category at the ceremony in Sheffield, South Yorkshire as part of the BeerX industry event. Craig and James Buchanan, of Strathaven Ales, said: “We’re really chuffed to win this award.
