Do you want another General Election?

PM call met with anger in East Kilbride

- Mark Pirie

Prime Minister Theresa May has called for another General Election – just weeks after voters go to the polls for the local council elections.

Following the independence referendum, Brexit vote, Scottish Parliament elections and the 2015 General Election, the News found out what the public thought of another trip to the ballot box.

Leo Isac said: “I’m happy to have another election – it means we can change things again.

“A lot of people aren’t happy with the way the Tory government are running the country so I want to see things freshened up again.” Shopper Jodie Allan said it was too much. She continued: “I don’t want to say I don’t care – because they are important.

“There have just been so many recently. I would rather stick with what we have and see what happens.”

Algo Arena from West Mains said: “It is a lot – almost too much – but it’s important to vote. I will be.

“East Kilbride used to be a Labour stronghold so there wasn’t even a point in voting. Nowadays you can actually make an impact.”

Michael Doolan slammed another vote, adding: “I’m sick of it. We have had two referendums and a general election, and now we have a council election as well. It’s just too much – people should just get on with running the country.

“Education and health should be the priority. Not more elections.”
