Vicious trio are spared jail

A violent trio who put three people in hospital after ‘jumping’ a teenage boy in a vicious targeted attack have avoided jail time.

Dad-of-five Scott Craig, 42, his wife Elaine, 39, and her 27-year-old sister-in-law Jade McLaughlan admitted to three reduced charges of assault to injury at Hamilton Sheriff Court. The Viewpark family had punched the 16-year-old victim on the head and repeatedly attempted to punch him on the head and body at Glen Mallie, St Leonards on March 5, last year.

The trio also pled guilty to repeatedly punching a woman on her head and body and seizing her by the hair and repeatedly punching a male victim on the head and body. It was alleged a knuckleduster was used in all three assaults but this was dropped from the original charge.

Scott Craig was ordered to carry out 160 hours of unpaid work within six months and both Elaine Craig and McLaughlan were placed under supervision for six months.
