Blade crime and cop attacks blight town
A number of shocking knife crimes have rocked the community in recent years:
• A young East Kilbride dad was stabbed in the street in broad daylight just yards from a primary school. Twenty-one-year-old Zenn Singh was rushed to hospital with a serious injury after being knifed with a four-inch blade in Westwood last September.
• Horrified shoppers spoke of their shock after a man was stabbed in St Leonards Square. The 33-year-old was found lying in a pool of blood with stab wounds on High Common Road last August.
• A bald unmasked knifeman held up the Spar in Alberta Place in August 2014, making off with a three-figure sum of cash and cigarettes.
• Daryn Murray was locked up for three years and nine months for a knife raid on Ali’s Grocers, on Kelso Drive, in August 2014. Staff were racially abused during the attack by three masked raiders and told they would be killed.
• A local cop suffered a broken bone to her hand after a noisy party in the South Lanarkshire area turned violent last September.
• Another East Kilbride officer was permanently scarred above his eye after being headbutted while making an arrest on the same weekend.
