Lock-in claims at EK eaterie
An East Kilbride restaurant is alleged to have held a morning lock-in for football fans on Old Firm derby day.
Licensing officers were on patrol in the Village at around 10.15am on Sunday when they spotted a man heading towards Asha’s restaurant.
A police spokesperson said officers attended at the restaurant and found a number of people, in football colours, who it is claimed were consuming alcohol outwith the restaurant’s permitted hours.
The gathering was broken up and dispersed.
A witness leaving a morning service at the nearby Old Parish Church told the News a police van was parked on Glebe Street and officers were banging on the door of Asha’s to gain entry.
He said: “About 30 people in football colours were escorted out of Asha’s by police officers.”
Celtic beat Glasgow rivals Rangers 2-0 at Hampden in a Scottish Cup semi-final later in the day.
A 43-year-old man has been reported to the procurator fiscal.
