East Kilbride Cricket Club are ready to unleash their new signings on the Western District Premier League this weekend – including THREE brothers.

The Torrance House side begin their campaign on Saturday away to Clydesdale, who pipped them to the title last season.

Following the departure of last season’s player of the year, Ross Lyons, the club have made four new signings, snapping up trio Josh, Saif and Kess Sajjad from Drumpellier, as well as Adil Hussain from Renfrew.

The youngest brother Kess, 16, is a bowler, Josh is an all-rounder and Saif is an attacking opening batsman and fielder.

The new recruits have delighted EK all-rounder Josh Johnston and he told the News: “We have made four new signings that the club and I are very excited about.

“The Sajjad brothers are all young, promising cricketers that have already made a great impact in training and also in our first warm up game against Prestwick last Saturday.

“Saif scored a beautiful 50 opening the batting and Josh grabbed a couple of wickets. All three will make their EK starting debuts on Saturday atTitwood.

“As for Adil, he will slot nicely into the team, giving us a bit of strength and depth in the batting and bowling.”

At the weekend East Kilbride warmed up with a friendly against Prestwick, but the real action gets underway at noon on Saturday.

Johnston added:“I’m really looking forward to another crunch match with Clydesdale after last season.

“The team has a bit of a buzz about us, the weather seems to be picking up and hopefully it stays that way.

“Training has been going well and there’s just a good team atmosphere.

“PJ Coetzee will be returning from last year and Jack Clark will be in there as well. Both are really excited to get out and show what they are capable of.”
