Young Scot says U-17 squad can be champs of Europe

Jordan Houston reckons Scotland’s under-17s have what it takes to become European champions this summer.

The Rangers defender helped Scott Gemmill’s kids to a flawless qualifying campaign with maximum points from their six games across the preliminar­y and elite rounds.

A trip to the finals in Croatia awaits next month after they topped their elite group with three wins, eight goals scored and just one conceded.

The young Scots, making an unpreceden­ted fourth appearance in a row at the championsh­ips, will face France, Hungary and Faroe Islands in the group stage.

Houston is targeting top spot and believes his squad can go the distance.

He said:“We are capable of going all the way. We’ve got top players in the side so there’s no reason we can’t. That’s our aim.

“We just need to do what we’ve been doing in qualifying.

“We are scoring a lot of goals as well, so we’re obviously doing something right going into the Euro finals without losing and conceding only one goal. It’s been a
