Labour is banking on more public holidays
Do you think we should have more?
Jeremy Corbyn says there will be four extra bank holidays if Labour form the next Westminster government.
They would fall on St David’s Day (March 1), St Patrick’s Day (March 17), St George’s Day (April 23) and St Andrew’s Day (November 30).
Announcing the policy, Mr Corbyn said: “These holidays will be a chance for workers to spend time with their families in their communities and with their friends.
“But they will also be a chance to celebrate the national cultures of our proud nations.”
The News asked shoppers at EK, East Kilbride whether they think we should have more bank holidays.
Margo Cunningham, said: “To be honest I
I would be up for that. Any extra days off are good for me... Henry Cunningham
think we have enough and don’t think we need any more.
However, husband Henry Cunningham disagreed and said: “I would be up for that – any extra days off are good for me.”
Meanwhile, Rhiannon Baird, from Greenhills, was not particularly enthusiastic about the policy and said: “I think there is enough and I am a nursing student so I wouldn’t get them anyway.”
And Betty McPhillips, from Whitehills, added: “I can’t see any point in having any more to be honest.
“I think there are more than enough. It just means you have to wait longer on buses a there is less frequent public transport on bank holidays.”
