Skipper is struck by coin
East Kilbride captain Barry Russell has brushed off being hit by a coin at the end of Saturday’s clash – insisting he feels sorry for the Buckie fan who is “50p down”.
At full-time Buckie fans surrounded the changing area to vent their anger at the result which saw Kilby come from 2-0 down to draw, and the EK defender claims he was struck by a coin.
He said:“The coin thing just shows how annoyed the supporters were.
“The spirit we showed to come back was fantastic.
“I think they thought the Lowland wasn’t a tough league.
“Throwing coins, I won’t lose any sleep over it. But I’m sure the guy who threw it will – he’s 50p down.”
The sides now go into Saturday’s second leg aiming to set up a final with the bottom side in League Two, currently Cowdenbeath.
And Russell insists the comments made post-match by Buckie will only spur his side on.
He said:“They’ve done our team talk for us with what’s been said and what their manager has done.
“Coming out and saying stuff like that is disrespectful after the result.
“I think the manager needs to chill out a bit. I don’t know why he’s gone for the ball with Fabio.
“The abuse we got was unbelievable. The next game can’t come quickly enough and we’re looking forward to it.”
