Rocker plays in Caroline’s living room
A music fan was on cloud nine at the weekend when her home in Westwood became the ‘rock ‘n’ roll capital of the universe’.
Mum-of-four Caroline Donnelly opened her house for an intimate gig with eighties rocker Kevin McDermott after winning a competition.
The Glasgow musician, who still tours the country, put business cards with individual numbers in with his merchandise.
And after Caroline bought various items she won first place in the Facebook competition to have Kevin play in her living room.
He rose to fame with his band The Kevin McDermott Orchestra (KMO) after releasing the album ‘Mother Nature’s Kitchen’ in 1989.
Caroline invited family and close friends along for the acoustic jam on Saturday night – and is still star-struck.
“Kevin was at my house for over two hours and played all my favourite songs,” she told the News.
“He spent a lot of time chatting with myself, family and friends.
“For someone who has followed him for 30 years it was a dream come true for me and I’m still on cloud nine.”
Caroline first saw Kevin and his band at The Pavilion in Glasgow in the late 1980s and was instantly hooked.
“I have always loved his music since the first time I saw him,” said the research technician. “There was a real buzz in the house before he arrived and everyone was hyper – especially me.
“I decided to keep it intimate – and my living room isn’t that big – so it was family and some friends who knew about Kevin and his music. There was a bit of an overspill into the kitchen mind you!”
The gran added: “Afterwards, Kevin put a post on his Facebook page saying Westwood was the rock ‘n’ roll capital of the universe which was a lovely touch. Everyone said afterwards how much of a genuinely nice guy Kevin was, chatting away and answering questions about the music industry.
“It is definitely an experience I won’t forget in a hurry – and it seems I will now be known as the newest music venue in Westwood.”
