Windfarmfireprobe
An investigation has been launched by Whitelee Windfarm bosses after a turbine fire at the site.
Scottish Fire and Rescue Services responded to a report that a wind turbine was on fire near Eaglesham.
No one was injured and crews dealt with the incident but Scottish Power Renewables will conduct a probe.
A spokesperson said: “There was a turbine fault at Whitelee Windfarm Extension on April 11 and a full investigation into the root cause of the incident is underway.
“It is not related to any previous faults at site.
“Safety is our top priority and as a precaution we immediately started wider inspections. We are satisfied no related issues have been discovered.”
Kirsten Oswald – who is not seeking re-election as MP in East Renfrewshire but represented the area at the time of the fire – encouraged an increase in safety measures at the windfarm.
“Any safety incident is concerning,” she said, “and I maintain close communications with Scottish Power to ensure a full awareness of any issues at Whitelee.
“I am pleased that Scottish Power acted quickly to investigate and to ensure that precautionary inspections were carried out.
“Safety must be the top priority at Whitelee.”
