Enjoyable weekend in the Lake District

- Edith Findlay

Claremont Rambling Club’s annual weekend away was celebrated by members active – and not so active – along with friends and family.

The club travelled down by coach to the Lake District and were based in the Patterdale Hotel.

Saturday walkers split into two groups, as is their usual practice, with the long walkers being deposited at Pooley Bridge and walking the 10 miles back to their base in Patterdale.

The alternative group walkers started from Patterdale and followed a circular 7½-mile route of Grisedale.

The non-walkers were also dropped off at Pooley Bridge from where they enjoyed a very pleasant steamer journey to Glenridding and from this point finished back at Patterdale by means of a short walk.

Sunday saw some members of the club being deposited by coach at Grasmere and from there walking the Coffin Route (approximately 4½ miles) to Ambleside where they met up with the rest of the group who had decided not to take part in the walk but had wished to investigate this very charming destination.

From there, the club and friends journeyed back to East Kilbride via Moffat, where they had arranged a high tea in the Moffat House Hotel to round off the weekend.

The weather could not have been kinder with warm sunshine and clear blue skies throughout.

This, together with the absolutely stunning scenery of the area, the extremely hospitable Patterdale Hotel and the final touch of the excellent high tea in the Moffat House Hotel, had everyone agreeing that it had been an excellent weekend in great company. What more could you wish for?

Individuals wishing to join in either walks or club nights can be assured of a warm and friendly welcome.
