Pam bowing out with top town award

- Paul Thomson

Pam Clark insists winning the East Kilbride Sports Personality of the Year Award is the perfect end to her competitive career.

The 21-year-old British trampoline champion retired from the sport earlier this year following her snub from Team GB at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

But on Saturday night she was crowned the best amateur sports star in the town after pipping East Kilbride FC’s Sean Winter, who won best adult male, to the overall prize.

Pam, who also won a team gold with Britain at the European Championships last year, said: “This is a really nice way to finish off my career and I’m really thankful to EK Sports Council who have supported me a lot over the years for giving me this award. It’s great to be recognised for the hard work and my achieve ments.

“There’s no more competitions for me as an athlete now but I hope in the future I can take up a coaching role.

“With everything I’ve learned, it would be great to give something back to the sport and pass on my knowledge to others.”

Her trophy win means Pam has now completed the full set of EK Sports Awards, having previously won the junior under-12 and junior under-18 categories in recent years.

EK Sports Council chairman Jim Ballantyne said: “Pam had a fantastic year and is a very worthy winner of this award.”
