Company donation

Kind-hearted staff from an East Kilbride-based energy firm have given a boost to a charity which helps needy children.

Employees at EDF Energy recently handed over a cheque for £8000 to the Glasgow Children’s Holiday Scheme charity.

A group of 14 staff recently visited Wemyss Bay to give the five static caravans owned by the charity a spring clean ahead of the new holiday season and, as well as handing over the cheque, donated items including games, kitchenware, microwaves, televisions and a hoover.

Robert Gilhooly, principal tenant for EDF Energy in East Kilbride, said: “When speaking to those at the charity it is clear how valuable a break from day-to-day life can be for some of the area’s most disadvantaged families.

“Everyone at the East Kilbride site is delighted that EDF Energy has been able to support such a worthwhile cause with both funds and staff time.

“Our people did a wonderful job of gathering donations of everything from toys to kitchen equipment to make sure the vans are ready for this year’s visitors.”

The group took part in the spring clean as part of EDF Energy’s Helping Hands volunteering programme which gives employees the chance to spend two days of company time supporting local community and environmental projects.

Beverly Lynch, from EDF Energy’s East Kilbride office, said: “The team pitched in to clean the caravans and replenish them with the donations we had brought along. While we were there staff from the charity told us about some of the children whose lives had been changed by having the chance to have a break in one of the holiday homes which gave us a really strong drive to work.

“It was a great day and everyone felt proud to have been part of it”.
