Concerns after NHS hit by cyber attack East Kilbride residents have their say
The NHS cyber attack crippled hospitals across Lanarkshire and the United Kingdom.
The ransomware virus, which locked files and demanded payment for access, affected 150 countries.
Thirteen NHS organisations in Scotland were among those affected.
The News spoke to shoppers in East Kilbride about their concerns over future cyber attacks of this nature and if more needed to be done to safeguard vital information stored online.
Leigh McLintock from Westwood said: “I’m definitely worried about future attacks – I never thought this one would happen.

And Josephine Kennedy said: “It is a worry although I don’t do that much online personally.
“But I think big public bodies like the NHS do need to look at how secure their systems are.”
Jessica Murdoch from Westwood said: “The NHS and other large organisations need to look at tightening their security online. When I worked for one of the big supermarkets they got hacked and payroll was badly affected.”
And Margaret Wilson added: “Attacks like this have a massive impact - it’s the knock-on effect.
“The NHS is very reliant on its computer system, from GPs to hospitals. They are all connected.”
