Focus on election
General Election candidates have hit the streets of Eaglesham as they campaign ahead of next month’s poll.
The village sits within the constituency of East Renfrewshire.
Kirsten Oswald, of the SNP, is looking to defend the seat she won for the party in 2015 with a majority of 3718.
But she faces opposition from the Scottish Conservatives’ Paul Masterton, Labour’s Blair McDougall and Liberal Democrat Aileen Morton.
Ms Oswald said: “I am privileged to have spent the past two years representing people in my local community and I have seen first hand how important it is to have that strong local voice, and to stand up to the Tories at Westminster.
“Without the SNP providing a robust unified opposition to the Tories, communities like ours will be at the mercy of an increasingly right-wing Tory party, without a care for our local area.”
Mr Masterton said: “With only three weeks left until voters go to the polls, I am asking Eaglesham residents to put their faith in me come June 8.
“There is a need for Eaglesham to not be forgotten when it comes to investment – a commitment that I make to readers is not to forget about Eaglesham and to press for improved transport links if you put your faith in me.”
On his crowdfunding page, Labour’s Mr McDougall said: “East Renfrewshire is home for me. I was raised here and I’m raising my family here.
“I want to be a campaigning local MP focused on making our home better rather than on dividing us from our neighbours.”
Lib Dem Ms Morton was elected to serve the Helensburgh Central ward of Argyll and Bute Council at the elections earlier this month.
