Plans for 149 new houses in Strathaven
A planning application for the second phase of a massive housing development near Strathaven has been lodged with South Lanarkshire Council.
The application is for a residential development of 149 homes, with associated access roads, footpaths and landscaping on land at East Overton on Glassford Road.
It is the second phase of the Lauder Gardens development which already has outline planning permission, approved during the previous council administration.
Housebuilder Barratt want to start the second phase of this development in line with the local authority’s masterplan for the area.
David Scott, managing director at Barratt West Scotland, said: “We have lodged a planning application with South Lanarkshire Council for 149 homes to be built on land off Glassford Road in Strathaven, as outlined in the approved masterplan.
“This forms the next phase of our Lauder Gardens development and will include a selection of three, four and five-bedroom detached and semi-detached homes.
“Lauder Gardens has already proved popular with families and we expect the next phase to appeal to a wide range of buyers looking for a high-quality new home in Strathaven.”
But Tory Avondale and Stonehouse councillor, Graeme Campbell, told the News he has concerns over the development.
He said: “To date, I’ve been disappointed with Barratt and their subcontractors.
“I’ve highlighted my concerns to Barratt and, quite frankly, I’ve been ignored.
“In my opinion, Barratt have been given an opportunity to build in our fantastic community here in Strathaven, which they simply do not respect.
“Our community suffers as a result of continuous and repeated road closures.
“This inconvenience continues due poor quality restatement of the roads they’ve dug up in the first place; leading to even more road closures, which just add to our communities misery.
“So for these reasons, I am concerned that Barratt will simply continue to disrespect our community in Strathaven.”
