School’s aid mission gets a caffeine boost
Duncanrig coffee morning raises cash for Uganda trip
A cuppa or two has helped boost a school’s fundraising drive to send pupils on an aid mission to Africa.
Duncanrig Secondary’s Luwero Group were involved in organising a coffee morning which was held in association with the Westwood Evangelical Church.
In October, a group of 16 pupils and four staff will take part in a twoweek trip to Uganda to support a community project helping some of the world’s most impoverished people.
And they are looking to raise £30,000 before they go.
Westwood Evangelical Church also have close links with the Luwero Community and several members of the congregation gave their time to help the parent group in charge of fundraising as well as the church handing over the run of the building to the parent group to hold the event.
One of the parent organisers, Stewart Hurry, told the News: “The coffee morning managed to raise £1100 so a massive thanks goes to all those that came along on the day and the people and companies who supported us with donations and raffle prizes.
“The pupils took some time out from their exam studies and were at Morrisons in Stewartfield to do a session of bag packing for customers.
“Thanks to the staff at the store and in particular their community champion Jacqui Lang for their help in organising the event.
“Thanks to the generosity of the customers, the pupils raised another £750 towards the £30,000 target.”
Meanwhile, EK Futsal supported the school’s fundraising as part of their seven-a-side football tournament at the Ballerup pitches in Whitehills.
It was an entertaining day and as well as the football, there was a tombola, raffle, bouncy castle, hot dog stall and tea and coffee.
