11-year-old girl diagnosed with rare bone cancer

- Nicola Findlay

A fundraiser has been organised in aid of an 11-yearold Greenhills girl battling cancer.

Raegan Darlow was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma Cancer in January.

It is a rare type of bone cancer with around 600 cases being diagnosed in the UK each year.

Ewing sarcoma most commonly affects people who are 10 to 20 years old.

Although Raegan now attends Mount Cameron Primary, support staff at her former school, Greenhills Primary, were so moved with the little girl’s battle that they decided to organise a charity night to raise funds for her family to go on holiday.

It will be held in the Whitehills Farm pub in Scholars Gate on Friday evening.

Irene Stanley, a support assistant at Greenhills Primary, said: “Raegan is such a lovely wee girl.

“The staff here decided we would really like to do something so decided to organise the charity night.

“We have had so much support from people and businesses throughout East Kilbride, we really want to make it a success and raise as much as possible.

“There are some fantastic raffle prizes available on the night so it’s well worth coming along.”

Raegan’s dad Darren told the News: “We can’t thank Irene and everyone else at Greenhills Primary enough for doing this and for all the support Raegan has had during her illness.

“She is a remarkable little girl for what she has been through.

“Raegan has been in and out of the Schiehallion Ward at The Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow.

“The doctors and nurses do an incredible job – their work is invaluable.”

The Whitehills Farm are donating a buffet for free on the night and Greencore East Kilbride are also donating sandwiches for 150 people.

There will be a comedian and DJ Gordon Brown will also entertain guests.

DM specialist joiners in East Kilbride have also donated a prize worth £5000 – a bathroom suite from Your Home is also up for grabs.

Village Blinds have donated a prize as have DC Carpets in East Kilbride.
