Fun of the Fair

Eaglesham all set for fun-filled day

- Mark Pirie

Eaglesham will be out in force to celebrate their biennial Fair Day.

On Saturday, a musical-themed parade will travel through the village with a host of family activities in the afternoon.

Youngsters can take part in the ‘Beat the Goalie’ challenge and visit the kids zone for arts and crafts and other creative fun.

There will also be a beach volleyball competition and the annual dog show.

There was a buzz in the village earlier this week as the golf competition kickstarted the festivities.

Eaglesham Fair chairman Iain MacDonald said: “We could not hold such an event without the fabulous support from local businesses, programme advertisers, donations and sponsors.

“We look forward to enjoying the 1st Troon BB Pipeband and the Absurdist Pipe Band who accompany the floats down through the village to the playing fields. In tradition, we invite one of the former Fair Queens to crown our new Queen. This year it is our 1963 Fair Queen, Mrs Grace Richardson.

“Our Fair party this year will be Queen Cailin White, Queen’s Consort Fraser Robertson, Princess Niamh McIntyre and Attendant Scott Sweeney. Our band of volunteers from Eaglesham TREE have filled tubs with flowers, making sure new benches were in place and tidying up old slabs.”
