Public meeting This year’s community council public meeting will be held on Monday, June 5 at 7.30pm in the Castlemilk Hall. This is a change from the normal Thursday. The community council business continues to be dominated by the housing developmen­t behind Cameron Crescent. There is likely to be another lively discussion concerning this. The CC newsletter has been distribute­d to all households in the village but no agenda has been published for the meeting. As the local elections have now passed, it may be an opportunit­y to meet your new local elected representa­tives and raise any issues which is of concern.

Plant Sale The local Guides big plant sale would appear to have been successful, judging by the turnout to collect orders. There was also an opportunit­y to enjoy some tea or coffee and homebaking in the Reid Hall. This was an excellent community event and a big well done to Sandra Hawkins and all the volunteers who turned out to help make up the orders. Service The Covenanter­s Church service held in the church yard on Sunday was well attended and a great success. A wreath was laid on the grave of the Rev Andrew Morton B.A. The Rev Morton was imprisoned in Stirling Castle for his opposition to the Bishops. The service was very colourful with many participan­ts dressed in period costume.

Proposed – Harry McKinnon. Seconded – George Gibson. MIR/Local Plan Chair has tried to meet with South Lanarkshir­e Council, however, this has not been possible. Deadline for submission has passed and he has submitted a holding comment – specifical­ly about inconsiste­ncy in shortage v’s surplus of housing commented on in the documents. He will arrange a meeting with them to discuss all points raised in the April meeting.

EK News Ran a story to raise the profile of observed dangerous driving at the roundabout­s in the village. Appeal to Local People in Communitie­s SLC are running workshops through June. These seminars are action orientated. From the findings they want to prioritise a programme of work – so it’s important anyone with an interest in further developing their community, no matter how big or small, attends. They’d be delighted to see you there.The series of four workshops will be held in each of South Lanarkshir­e’s four respective localities. Councillor­s’ Report None present Planning Applicatio­ns One planning update: EK/17/0084 – Erection of two storey side extension, 346 Eaglesham Rd. Now approved. Any Other Business Community Notice Board – Secretary advised that the previous site of the notice board is private land. The members present discussed potential options for new site: Alternativ­e site close to railway station junction with Peel Road and Braehead Road. The viability of these sites will be discussed with SLC and progressed if possible.

Broadband No movement from either BT or Virgin. It was discussed that hold up is the provision of electricit­y to a new BT exchange. This requires access to power source at Peel Farm through overhead cabling. Action – secretary to investigat­e if this issue can be resolved.

Website When the website was originally designed last year, it was for a nominal fee. This year the web-builder site is looking to charge £300, which is too high for the community council. The chair is negotiatin­g to bring this down, however, we may have to move to an alternativ­e provider. The website may go offline for a short period whilst this is resolved.
