Rural The third of May saw the ladies of Gilmourton Rural come together for their last meeting of the session and the AGM. President, Secretary and treasurers reports were read and approved. Frances Smith was asked to take the chair for election of new committee. President Janet gave the vote of thanks and presented the judges with Flowers. Sarah Mateer presented her treasurer’s report for the year followed by Liz McAllan who gave the president’s report. Marion Hamilton presented prizes to this year’s winners: 1st, Marion Law, who received the Murray Cup; 2nd, Sheena Kerr; 3rd, Mary Harkness; 4th, Edith Steel, who received the Sarah Leslie Shield; and the president’s prize was awarded to Mary Craig. Details were given of the office bearers and committee members for session 2017-2018: President – Liz McAllan; Vice-president – Agnes Callan; Secretary – Myra Irving; Treasurer – Sarah Mateer; Committee members – Liz Batton, Mary Craig, Joan Duncan, Sheena Kerr, Marion Law and Joan Wilson. At the end of business, members enjoyed a delicious supper prepared by committee members. The first meeting of the new session will take place on Wednesday, September 6 when the speaker will be Marilyn Caddell talking on “Colours to Dye for”. The competitio­ns that evening will be “Hedgerow in a Jam Jar” and three cheese scones.

Mr Stewart noted that a quorum of members was present and that the meeting of Jackton and Thorntonha­ll Community Council could proceed in accordance with the constituti­on.

Police Report

PC Dennis Henderson and PC Kirsty Wilson attended the meeting. They advised that the new policing model is to have ‘Bobbies on the Beat’. They will be responsibl­e for patrolling the area and will arrive on foot. They will attend future JTCC meetings when possible. Recent issues include five incidents early in May where insecure vehicles were targeted. Police have reprimande­d and arrested the individual involved. They would like to reinforce the message to secure all vehicles and properties and to remove all personal
