Festival Enjoy a day of great music at venues around Strathaven this Saturday as Hangarfest comes to town, showcasing some great musical talent from the local area and beyond. The main event at the festival, which raises money for the Adam Law Community Trust, is an evening of music across three stages at the Town Mill from 7pm with confirmed acts including Supa, Kryptonite­s, Carly Connor and DopeSickFl­y. There will also be performanc­es in pubs and venues around the town from 1pm on the day – check out the Hangarfest Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/hangarfest.strathaven/ for details and updates. Tickets for the evening session are now on sale from Craig’s Newsagents or the Weavers at £15 each.

Camera Club On Thursday, May 11, the club held its annual exhibition of prints and projected images taken by its members over the past year. Trophies were awarded for the best in a number of categories; this year the trophies were awarded by Ian Kenny, the owner of picture framing businesses in Hamilton and Larkhall. The premier award and advanced monochrome pictorial was awarded to Robert Young for ‘Throw in the towel’. The advanced colour pictorial was awarded to Joyce Manson for ‘Up and Over’. The beginners projected image was awarded to Kenny Weddell for ‘Patience is a virtue’ and the advanced projected image was awarded to Heather Kerr for ‘Eagle Owl in Flight’. The night was well attended by members, their families and the public. Teas and home baking was sold for fundraisin­g and the a raffle was also run. The first prize of the raffle was won by the club’s youngest member, eight-year-old Daniel Tealing, which was a framed print of his choice from the exhibits on the night. Daniel chose Heather’s ‘Osprey Fishing’ which Ian Kenny has generously offered to print and frame free of charge for Daniel. The club is bow in recess until September 7 when the new season begins. The club would like to invite anyone interested in photograph­y to come along to the Rankin Church hall. John Hastie Museum Trust The trust’s summer exhibition will open in The Town Mill Arts & Heritage Centre on Saturday, June 10. It will focus on transport over the years, in and around Strathaven and Avondale.
