Strachan: My goal helped to heal pain

- Paul Thomson

Adam Strachan admits scoring a wonder goal in the South Challenge Cup Final helped ease the pain suffered in the‘biggest disappointment’of his career last week.

Kilby bounced back from their SPFL play-off defeat to Cowdenbeath with an impressive 4-2 win over Cumbernauld Colts.

Man of the match Strachan lit up the game with a 30-yard free-kick for Kilby’s third goal and teed up Joao Victoria for their fourth goal.

And he said: “I’ve scored a few good ones in my career, but this one is pretty special because it’s in a cup final.

“Any goal in my career is a bit of a rarity because I’m more about assists. I’ve taken a bit of stick for that in my time, so it was great to put that one away.

“It’s good to finish the season with a win and make sure we didn’t go out with a whimper.

“Last week was probably the biggest disappointment of my career because we got so close and there was so much build-up around it.

“It was a sore one to take and we didn’t want to go into the end of the season remembering that, so it was good to have this cup final and go on to win it.

“Being able to put that performance behind us, get on with this game and put in a really good performance shows the professionalism in the dressing room.

“I’ve had a few good performances this season, so it’s hard to pick just one.

“But obviously scoring a good goal and creating a couple shows I’ve had a good game.

“I just wish I scored one like that last week.”

Strachan ran the show for Kilby as the ex-Ross County and Partick Thistle winger once again proved his worth to the Lowland champions with a series of lung-bursting runs and assists.

He has played 42 of Kilby’s 47 games this season after arriving at the club in July, but it seems like he has pulled on the blue and gold for the last time, with his performances attracting interest from SPFL clubs.

Asked if he will be staying at K-Park for next season, the 30-year-old said: “I don’t know what the future holds.

“I’ve not spoken to anyone and none of the players really know what’s going on at the moment.

“There’s a lot of talk around the club. People are coming, people are going.

“But I’m not going to commit to anything right now.

“There’s been rumours about clubs higher up, but I’ve set myself a goal of playing at the highest level I can.

“If I get that chance I’ll take it, if not, I wouldn’t rule out staying here but we’ll just have to see what the summer holds.”
