Concern at spate of crime
Dear Editor,
It is with some concern I have been reading recent articles on a spate of break-ins and robberies in East Kilbride.
What is happening to the town? At one time East Kilbride was seen as a safe place to bring up your family.
But of late there seems to be a worrying increase in the number of incidents.
Only a few weeks ago a 12-year-old schoolboy was robbed in an underpass – a shocking incident, indeed – and a couple threatened in their home.
It is no wonder parents don’t want their children to walk to school and would rather get in the car instead.
Hopefully recent changes in the way Police Scotland organises its local policing teams will help reassure residents and nip this recent crime spree in the bud; for the good of East Kilbride and every one who lives in it. Name and address supplied Don’tgiveup Dear Editor,
Although not personally involved in the Langland Moss project, I have long admired the determination of Maureen Potter and The Friends of Langlands Moss.
News of the latest fire at Langlands Moss is absolutely devastating.
But my plea to Maureen Potter and the group is not to give up.
There are those of us who are friends of The Friends of Langlands Moss.
Please consider me to be one of them. If there is any way I can help by putting forward ideas I would be more than happy for Ms Potter to contact me if she so wishes.

Offering our support
Dear Editor,
In these uncertain times of volatile politics, fluid allegiances, tactical voting and even more cynicism than usual, we are fortunate in East Kilbride to have the certainty of Dr Lisa Cameron – brought up in the town who belongs to and cares about her constituency and has a lifelong connection to it.
For me and my family, one of whom, my daughter, is learning disabled, we know we have the added certainty that Dr Cameron, as a mother and also a doctor in the NHS, has a professional concern and a deep personal empathy for the disabled and learning disabled folk of our community and is a believer in and champion of the day care centre model of which the local Murray Owen Centre EK Lifestyles is arguably the best example to be found, and which East Kilbride should be immensely proud of and support. It is unfortunate that reader Angus Morrison (Presenting prizes, May 24) has decided to criticise the local sports council for their choice of one presenter (from a total of 15).
He could have complimented the group of volunteers who organise this excellent awards evening, not forgetting the fabulous performance from Calderglen High School jazz band.
May I suggest that your reader forgets politics and supports this group of hardworking members of the community. Congratulations to the sports council on their 50th anniversary. Name and address supplied
