EK Thistle awards night:

- Paul Thomson

East Kilbride Thistle brought the curtain down on a memorable season on Saturday night with their player of the year awards.

After winning promotion on the final day of the season last month, the Jags crowned their star performers at the British Legion in theVillage.

Goalkeeper Chris Treacy took home the coveted Players’Player of the Year award, while midfielder Adam Boyle scooped an awards double after being named both Manager’s Player of the Year and Supporters’Player of theYear.

Defender John Craig took home the prize for committee player of the year, while Liam McLaughlin landed the top scorer prize with 11 goals from midfield.

Former gaffer Billy Campbell, who has moved to his old club Cambuslang Rangers to become their No 2, was in attendance alongside the rest of his promotionwinning coaching team, Gary Johnstone and Ronnie Sanderson.

Treacy picked up the Players’ Player of the Year prize for the second consecutive season after a superb run of form at the end of the season, which saw him keep four crucial clean sheets in their final five games.

The 25-year-old, from Whitehills, told the News:“Everyone says this is the best award to win. I’ve won it two years in a row now, so I must be doing something right.

“To win promotion and then receive this award, it’s been a great season.

“My performances in the run-in have probably helped. Everyone wrote us off going into our final few games, but we pulled off some great results and I had four clean sheets in the last five games.

“The boys have been fantastic and it means a lot to get this award.”

He was also full of praise for fellow winner, Adam Boyle. Treacy added: “Adam played the last few games with a broken cheekbone and I’m sure that swung the award for him.

“He’s been brilliant for us and deserves his award.”

Meanwhile, Thistle’s title-winning amateur team were also recognised on the night. Cameron Smith was the big winner, scooping both the Players Player and Player of the Year prizes. Pictures: Karen M Scott
