40 YEARS AGO

Plans were revealed for a new £300,000 hotel in Nerston to boost the local economy.

Highland Way Hotels had received approval from the district council to go ahead with their proposals.

However, they were still awaiting the green light for their hotel license before pushing ahead with the project.

In other news, East Kilbride residents were fearing a rise in gun crime in the town and called for a police crackdown.

An anonymous resident called for more to be done to prevent access to dangerous firearms.

He admitted to seeing people freely walking around areas including Greenhills with the weapons.

30 YEARS AGO

Residents in East Mains were furious about sewage issues in the town – and called for quick changes to be made to save their properties.

Floods of foul water were destroying homes in the area and leaving local people with huge bills for damages.

One resident claimed that the backflow had forced them to replace their bathroom carpet three times.

20 YEARS AGO

Thugs in Greenhills put the lives of a bus driver and passengers at risk as they lobbed a bike through the front window of the vehicle.

Police hunted for the culprits and slammed them for their stupidity after the bike was dropped from a footbridge on Troon Avenue, smashing the front window of the bus.

Thankfully, no one was injured after the quick-thinking driver managed to control the vehicle despite the dangerous circumstan­ces – and was praised by locals for his heroics.
