Community stadium moves a step closer
Would plans be boost for the town?
The News revealed last week that a new community stadium in East Kilbride was a step closer with detailed plans being submitted to South Lanarkshire Council.
East Kilbride Community Trust (EKCT) have lodged a blueprint for a phased 4000-seater development in Langlands which would see “The East Kilbride Community Stadium” operational by 2018 and completed by 2020.
The News spoke to folk in East Kilbride Shopping Centre about the plans and whether or not thought they would be a welcome boost for the town.
Stewart Taylor from Westwood said: “My grandson plays for one of the K-Park teams and I think it would be a good thing all round for the town if they got a bigger and better stadium.”
Alan Robinson from St Leonards said: “I think a new stadium is something East Kilbride really needs and I hope that it goes through planning without any problems.”
Meanwhile, Calderwood’s Martin Scoular said: “I think it would be a good thing, especially when you see how well EKFC are doing – just failing to get into the professional leagues.
“Not just that, it would be a great asset for the town – especially for its youngsters.”
And Ruth Macmillan from Newlandsmuir said: “I think it would be a good asset and get more kids into football and get them to be more active. We need more, particularly for teens.”
